In general, your CD changer is likely to send an error message if there is a problem. Unfortunately, many CD changers can't describe clearly about what goes wrongly. The generic error message on many CD changers is 'CDERR', which indicate errors such as mechanical failures, unrecognizable media and CD jams. In most cases, you can't fix this problem on your own.
CD jams are common problem for CD changers, because they flip through several disc simultaneously, as the result one or more CDs can get jammed. If this happens, the unit must be opened and it can only be performed in a shop. Jammed discs are likely to be damaged due to sudden physical contact. Your problem can be complicated with the player malfunctions, for example the player may not be able to play the CD, in other cases, the player may fail to eject the CD, ruining the entire smooth inner working of a CD changer.
CD changers involve many moving parts, eventually some component will be damaged and your changer refuses to work, in general you should choose a good quality changer to get improved reliability. One model may often have a characteristic issue, so do your homework before buying one.
