For those that are going to be driving long distances or even for these that drive every day, they are going to find that having an emergency kit in their car for those times in which they may find themselves having a bit of car trouble is going to be the one thing that they thank their lucky stars for having. However, many people are unsure of what they should be putting in a roadside emergency kit. There are those kits that you can buy that are already made and ready to go at the store, however, most people find that packing their own is something that gives them more satisfaction and can actually prove to be more useful in the long run.

First thing first, remember what happens when you get a flat tire. A good remedy for this that is great for those women out there that may not know how to change a tire, or for those vehicles that no longer have a spare tire is to have a can of instant tire repair. They are going to find that a bottle of this is usually a couple of bucks and when they use it, the tire is as good as new. Of course, the person should see about having a new tire installed as soon as they get to their destination, but there are some people that have used these and then drove for hundreds of miles without any problem. When deciding how many to carry, most people recommend two since the chances of blowing out all of your tires are pretty slim to none.

Another thing to carry in your emergency kit is a flashlight, a first aid kit, and extra batteries on the off chance that you are stuck at night and someone does become hurt, which does happen as people tend to knick their fingers or so forth getting off tires during the night and so forth. Another idea to remember is that if you have someone that is riding with you that may have an illness that requires medicine, you should make sure that you have enough to satisfy them should you be stuck somewhere that you get no cell phone service and it is the middle of the night.

During the cooler season, carry extra blankets to ensure that no one gets cold if they end up sitting on the side of the road for a few hours without any heat. Drinking water is also something that you should pack to ensure that no one gets thirsty, as well as a few snacks. You do not have to pack enough to last for days, but you never know what the circumstances may be and how long you could be there until help arrives, especially during times of colder weather.

Those that do become stuck on the side of the road and they do not have the necessary tools or know how to fix the problem should be sure that they call someone as soon as possible. Since they do not want to be stuck there for very long as the side of a major highway is not the place to be.
