To make sure your suspension system is working correctly, you should make sure that you the leaf spring measured accurately. These measurements will determine whether the replacement leaf spring will mount on your car without disrupting the axle location and cause other problems. The simplest way is to measure the distance the springs' mounting point, however, there are other factors the come into play when it comes to getting the correct measurement.
One of the best ways is to place a steel ruler ring above the longest spring. The end of the ruler must be aligned with center of the (left side) mounting bracket. SLowly push the steel ruler toward the spring, so it will bent along the spring curvature. Measure the distance between the center bolt (the one that holds the leaf spring) and the center of the mount.
Now, you can switch to the right leaf spring and repeat the procedure by aligning and measuring the distance correctly. To determine the length of your leaf spring, add the result of two measurements.
The next step is to measure the spring arch. You can do this by tying a string line on the mounting point of leaf spring (the left one). Tie the other end of the string to the right mounting point, make sure you pull it across the leaf spring. Make sure the tied ends align perfectly with the center of the leaf spring mounting point. With a steel ruler, measure the distance between the leaf spring's center bolt and the point where the ruler intersects the string.
