I'm working with my friends to replace a worn out transmission of a 1966 Mustang. Any advice in how to do this painlessly?

You should use a jack to lift you car and place two stands on each side, under the frame rails. SLowly lower your Mustang to the stands. The lift point of the jack should be placed under the transmission pan. Slowly raise the jack until you make sure that the lift point is resting securely against the pan, so it can take most of the weight off the crossmember. With a socket wrench, slowly remove two nuts of the crossmember.
After removing each bolt, you'll notice that the nut secures each bolt tightly. Use open-end wrench to easily remove the nuts. To release the crossmember, pull the bolts out. SLowly lift the transmission mount from the crossmember. Then place the new mount on the crossmember.
Now just reverse the steps, slide the two bolts to the two ends of the crossmember. Secure the bolts through the frame using the respecting nuts. Use a socket wrench to tighten the nut onto the studs.
Now you can safely remove the jack stands and lower your Mustang to the ground.
The above steps should help you to painlessly complete your work![]()
